"An Update on Avian Influenza in Missouri: Are Our Songbirds in Danger?" Join Dr. Sherri Russell, DVM, Missouri State Wildlife Veterinarian. BAS fielded many inquiries this spring as a severe avian influenza (AI) outbreak killed some of our migratory waterfowl and caused temporary closures at some popular birding venues. It also led to many questions about feeding songbirds. Dr. Russell will discuss the impact of AI specifically on Missouri birds (including songbirds) and what the future may hold in terms of new outbreaks and ongoing research. "Ducks Unlimited and Its Habitat Conservation Program in Missouri". Join Mike Shannon, Manager of Conservation Programs, Ducks Unlimited Big Rivers Initiative. Since 1937, Ducks Unlimited (DU) has led efforts to protect, restore and enhance wetland habitats and associated uplands throughout North America. This presentation will describe how DU is working with Missouri partners, such as Burroughs Audubon Society, to use state of the art techniques to improve wetland habitat.
