General Meetings & Programs: Who Was John Burroughs, and Why Is BAS Named After Him?

“Who Was John Burroughs, and Why Is BAS Named After Him?” – Virtual event (Zoom) presented by Joan Burroughs, President, John Burroughs Association. Joan will explore Burroughs’ life and legacy, from his early years on a New York dairy farm and his path to becoming a renowned nature essayist to his lasting impact on natural history writing and nature organizations, including Burroughs Nature Club, now Burroughs Audubon Society of Greater Kansas City. As a great-granddaughter of John Burroughs, Joan grew up attached to the land, exploring the Hudson Valley and Catskills with her family. A love of nature and messing around in the dirt drives her passion to save lands, improve access to them, and foster enthusiasm for the natural world on foot or in print.
